Q. How is it that a sexual predator can be
living right next door to me and I would not
know?
A. The federal law currently requires all
50 states to make information available but
makes no requirement that
community members actually be notified that a sex offender has moved into their
area.
(P.S. If this seems important to you, click
here to go to our Notification Service. Then,
if a child predator does move into your
neighborhood, we will provide you with e-mail alert
so that you will be aware of his/her presence.
We provide this FREE to all Coachella Valley
residents!
Q. When are sex offenders required to
register with local authorities?
A.
Sex offenders are required to register with local
law enforcement agencies within five working days of
being released from a local jail or state prison or
upon completion of any alternate sentence. Sex
offenders also must re-register every year within
five working days of his or her birthday, moving,
and changing his or her name.
With few exceptions, the registration requirement is
a lifetime mandate. During annual registration, the
registered sex offender is required to verify his or
her name and address or temporary location. Failure
to properly register may be a felony.
