file your child Teaching children only about stranger danger is confusing and misleading since most of us as adults speak with strangers regularly. Can you remember the last time you went to the grocery store and didn't speak with the clerk at the check out counter? The stranger danger mixed message leads children into believing that if someone they know is touching them in an inappropriate area then it may be okay because they are not a stranger. The "Stranger danger" myth leads kids into believing that the only person who could touch them inappropriately is the one eyed stranger lurking behind the bushes. Take necessary precautions to prevent child abductions but be sure that you're well aware that most childhood sexual abuse happens with someone whom the child has an established relationship. Often, the offender is a person in a position of authority or trust.
